I'm A Hillbilly

Here's a song my 7 year old student, Ian, and I wrote together the other day. Played it at the houseconcert lastnight and overdubbed some vocals so you could here 'em. Here I am singing with Doug S. on bass and Carlos L. on drums.

Gotta go and feed my pig
Gotta go and get my rig
Drive on down to uncle Fig’s
Then I’ll do and awesome jig
I’m a hillbilly

Pick my nose, polish my guns
Wake up early bake my buns
Spend all day out in the sun
Churn some butter when the day is done

I’m a hillbilly
No! Really?
Yes, silly
I’m a hillbilly

I get up and put on my overalls
Always wanted to go down niagra falls
Feed my horse out in the stall
Come on over y’all

I’m a hillbilly
No! Really?
Yes, silly
I’m a hillbilly

Mother's Day

Here are my cousins, Lucas, Logan, and Will, goofin’ for the camera at our Mother’s Day get together.

The Train Into The City

Here’s a new song I wrote in NYC last weekend:

The Train Into The City

I take the train into the city
I read graffiti on the way
while commuters read their papers
I learn what young punks have to say

I see the walls filled up with names
the wild-styled dialects
some I barely understand
but for each one I have respect

The crumbled walls are falling down
beside the tracks are broken parts
among the rubbish and the rubble
a gallery of broken art

The city’s silhouette approaches
above the traffic in the streets
above the nameless men in doorways
the skyline jagged as a key

I take the train into the city
I read graffiti on the way
while commuters read their papers
I learn what young punks have to say

Story: While I was staying with my brother in New Jersey I’d commute into NYC each day. I wrote this one morning on the train.
