I caught The Shins on Austin City Limits while flipping through the hi-definition channels the other day and was so amazed by the picture that I took a bunch of pictures. My favorites were the ones like this one that caught part of two images during a cross-fade. I love The Shins and their perfect songs sounded impeccible. I was a bit dissapointed with James Mercer’s stage presence, though. He almost never wavered from a furrowed brow, singing out of the side of his mouth. But he writes amazing songs with incredible range and pulled off all the high notes with only a bit of straining.
Hod Rod
I went out on to So. Congress to play for all the Hot Rod people who have rumbled in to Austin this weekend. Made $18 in an hour or so! Above is a picture of my view of the street from where I was playing (in front of Ten Thousand Villiages) when a firetruck pulled up behind the yellow hot rod.
Below is the smoke cloud left by a burnout to my right, down past the Continental Club.
Grass
Here’s another pic of Mo (on the right), this time with Grass. They played Ruta Maya a couple months ago and I snapped these pics. Click on the pic above to see more at flickr.
Hill Country Strings Concert
Here’s Mo (in his J shirt), warming up before the fantastic concert lastnight. The 250 seat hall was packed with people standing in the back!
Sub Oslo
I saw Sub Oslo, a dub band from Denton, lastnight. They’re great. It was sold to me as their last show, but I found out half-way through that they are just losing their bass player, and they are going to find a way to go on.
