The Train Into The City

Here’s a new song I wrote in NYC last weekend:

The Train Into The City

I take the train into the city
I read graffiti on the way
while commuters read their papers
I learn what young punks have to say

I see the walls filled up with names
the wild-styled dialects
some I barely understand
but for each one I have respect

The crumbled walls are falling down
beside the tracks are broken parts
among the rubbish and the rubble
a gallery of broken art

The city’s silhouette approaches
above the traffic in the streets
above the nameless men in doorways
the skyline jagged as a key

I take the train into the city
I read graffiti on the way
while commuters read their papers
I learn what young punks have to say

Story: While I was staying with my brother in New Jersey I’d commute into NYC each day. I wrote this one morning on the train.

New York City Photos

Maile and I spent a long weekend in NYC this weekend and all I really wanted to do was wander around my old campus at NYU and take pictures. Here are a few of my favorites.

I love the reflection of buildings in buildings.

This is the view from the studio of a friend.

Here is my reflection in a subway car speeding past me.

The reflection of a building in the rear side and back window of a black car.

I love clouds too. Clouds and buildings playing together…wonderful.
